The territory of Finland was inhabited soon after the Ice Age, when the thick ice had melted away. Many historians are sure that Finnish language was formed in Iron Age. The first tribes, which settled in Finland, were the haters-gatherers, some time later people started to farm and it became the major way of their life. Gradually, Finns changed their religion from the paganism into Christianity. Later during the Reformation period most of people became protestants.
In its historical development Finland was in turns under control of different countries, Soon after the Middle Age it was occupied by Sweden, later Russia took the control over the country, but it remains autonomic and without own army. Finland finally became independent from Russia in 1917. As a definite reflection of Russian revolution, in Finland began the Civil War. Communists were defeated and the country kept on sticking to the old capitalist system. Stalin made numerous efforts to make Finland the communist country, even sent the troops. Such situation resulted in the Winter war. Finally, Finland had to give away some lands including Karelia, to make the peace with Soviet Union. In 1941 Finland joined the German invasion, but it wasn’t in favor of the fascism, it just wanted to return its territories. But it was a great loss again. After the so-called War of Lapland Finland remained independent and began to restore its industrial and economic strengths. The country joined European Union in 1995, in 2002 it began to circulate Euro. Modern Finland is a country of high technology. It is one of the leading European countries to use Internet and mobiles.
