About Finland

Without any doubts Helsinki is the leading tourist attraction and monumental landmark of the country. Start you journey around Helsinki from its center, because practically all the sights are situated here. Market Square, the Senate Square, the Esplanade and the Mannerheimintie - the architecture of these streets and squares reflect the history of the city. Don’t forget to make photos near the bronze statue of Tsar Alexander II on Senate Square. If you used to get the intellectual profit of all the tours, then visit the museums of Helsinki. Finnish Aviation Museum, Maritime Museum of Finland, Military Museum, Museum of Applied Art – this list can be continued. Helsinki is a city of parks. The parks can be found practically at every corner. Despite the fact that Helsinki is densely-built, the tourists can always find the place to relax and to breathe in the fresh air. That’s why the tourists, visiting Helsinki, emphasize it is a unique city, because the modern quarters are mixed with green parks.

Suomenlinna is not only the pride of Finland, but also a World Heritage site. This fortress is a national symbol of the country; it has six different museums on its grounds. It is impossible to visit Finland without coming to Seurasarri Island – open-air museum. Eighty seven historical structures, placed in natural settings, create the impression that you are traveling though the past. In the southeastern Finland there is Savonlinna - popular spa resort. It offers the tourists a wide range of various activities: boating, fishing, exploring the archipelago or just sun and se-bathing. The medieval Olavinlinna Castle, located in this region, is the exact place where Finnish Opera Festival is annually held. The guests can listen to an interesting mixture of classics or popular operas. Vaasa is usually called the window to the west. Vaasa is a city of contrasts. The public Empire-styled buildings are surrounded by green parks; modern blocks are located near ancient ruins. That’s why many tourists choose exactly this place out of the list of many other Finnish regions. The locals are sure than in Vaasa the past and the present meet. It is evidently seen if you pay attention to the fact that international industry is combined here with the tranquility of a small town.

Finland is very often associated with Lapland – the place of fairy-tales and miracles. First of all, Lapland is known as a residence of Santa Claus. Rovaniemi, on the Arctic Circle, is the region's capital and is usually called the Christmas City. According to the legend, Santa together with his wife, elves, reindeer and goodness, lives in a small village in Lapland. You can meet Santa in the most picturesque place, located just outside the city in the snow-covered forest of Christmas trees. The main Santa’s duty is to run his magical toy factory, to answer children’s letters and, of course, to give them presents. The usual tourists’ rout includes the visit to the Christmas post-office, Santa’s restaurant; you can also buy the toys and sweets in the gift shop or enjoy folk dance performances. Another outstanding event of Lapland is its natural wonder - Northern Lights, which beauty attracts tourists from all over the world. All in all, despite its huge historical heritage, Finland remains the country of fairy-tale.
